Whitney Bank - Transcontinental
The Whitney National Bank's Transcontinental and Canal Street branches represent Whitney's efforts to reconstruct branches damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Williams Architects has provided design services for several of these endeavors. Williams' scope on the Transcontinental and Canal Street branches included the design and construction administration for new branch buildings with drive-thru and ATM lanes, as well as a complete re-work of the sites, including landscaping, parking, sidewalks and pedestrian plazas at the branch entries. Williams worked with representatives from Whitney to develop a clear design concept for these branches based on an urban design protoype. The intent is to convey the strength and stability Whitney Bank has long been known for in the New Orleans area while using an updated design palette. Shifting planes and rectangles used in architecture, interior design and landscape architecture create a more contemporary image for the Whitney, while planes wrapped in plaster and stone are used to create a sense of permanence required in bank design.
