Whitney National Bank’s Transcontinental and Canal Street branches represent the organization’s commitment to reconstruct branches damaged by Hurricane Katrina and Williams Architects was proud to provide design services for several of these endeavors. Williams’ scope on the Transcontinental and Canal Street branches included the design and construction administration for new branch buildings with drive-thru ATM lanes, as well as a complete re-work of the sites, including landscaping, parking, sidewalks, and pedestrian plazas at the branch entries. Williams worked collaboratively with representatives from Whitney to develop a clear design concept for these branches based on an urban design prototype. The intent is to convey the strength and stability Whitney Bank has long been renowned for in the New Orleans area while using an updated design palette. Shifting planes and rectangles used in architecture, interior design and landscape architecture create a more contemporary image for Whitney, while planes wrapped in plaster and stone are used to create a sense of permanence required in bank design.
